This is an incredible fossil fish. A large, well preserved Diplomystus dentatus with a wooden backing for wall-mounting. Diplomystus is an extinct relative of modern day herrings. Its upturned mouth was used to feed on surface fish, like the small Knightia preserved beneath the large fish. These prehistoric fish swam in ancient Eocene lakes in Wyoming, USA - 50 million years ago, and are now preserved in the world famous Green River Formation.
